The gathering, which took place alongside the NBA summer league, was designed to foster familiarity and chemistry among a significantly altered roster. Khobi Price of the California Post confirmed the event during an appearance on 97.1 The Fan radio, noting that the focus was on structured workouts rather than complex strategic sessions.
Attendees included a mix of new acquisitions and returning players, such as Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Bronny James, Austin Reaves, Jake LaRavia, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Jaden Hardy, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Kevon Looney. The camp aimed to help new faces integrate into the team environment, addressing the logistical challenge of managing a high volume of roster turnover before the regular season begins.
The organisational shift follows a period of substantial personnel change. The Lakers parted ways with key figures including LeBron James, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Rui Hachimura, and Jaxson Hayes, while also trading Deandre Ayton. In their place, the club has integrated new talent such as Quentin Grimes, Ziaire Williams, Matisse Thybulle, and rookie Cameron Carr, alongside the players who attended the Las Vegas camp.
Despite the influx of new players, the organisation has identified a persistent structural gap at the starting wing or forward position. Reports indicate that the Lakers are continuing to pursue Jonathan Kuminga to address this vacancy, suggesting that roster construction remains an active priority for the front office as they seek to balance the squad.
Last season, the Lakers finished with a 53-29 record, securing the fourth seed in the Western Conference. While analysts suggest the current iteration may not immediately replicate that win total, there is an expectation of increased roster balance. The new lineup boasts enhanced speed, athleticism, and three-point shooting, with a greater reliance on non-star players to generate offensive plays and scoring opportunities.
