Messi’s 100th Inter Miami goal delivers first Campeones Cup

Inter Miami won their first Campeones Cup title with a 2–0 victory over Cruz Azul, as Lionel Messi scored his 100th goal for the club in Cristian Gonzalez’s first match in charge.

Messi opened the scoring with a header in the first half, matching the method of his first goal for Inter Miami against the Mexican side, according to CBS Sports. Casemiro added the second goal as rain fell at the club’s new Nu Stadium.

The Campeones Cup is contested between the reigning MLS Cup and Liga MX champions. CBS Sports reported that Inter Miami’s victory was the first by an MLS club since New York City FC won the competition in 2022.

The result ended Inter Miami’s three-match winless run and delivered the club’s first clean sheet in 12 matches in all competitions. It also gave the new stadium its first trophy since opening in April 2026.

Inter Miami paid a cost during the match, with Facundo Mora leaving with an injury in the 75th minute. The victory nevertheless secured a strong opening result for Gonzalez as the club begins a new managerial era.
