Klatt flags Oregon, Oklahoma, Washington and Florida State after Week 2
The FOX Sports analyst identified four programmes facing serious concerns, while saying UCLA is meeting pre-season expectations.
FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt has placed Oregon, Oklahoma, Washington and Florida State in college football’s early “time to panic” category after Week 2, while describing UCLA’s start under coach Bob Chesney as encouraging.
Klatt said Oregon’s film was “alarming” on both sides of the ball, pointing to offensive run-pass tells and injury issues. The assessment followed a week in which Oregon and Oklahoma suffered major upsets.
His concerns about Oklahoma centred on the offensive line and a failure to establish the run. Klatt said quarterback John Mateer would need exceptional performances or explosive plays to move the ball, a formula he questioned over the course of a season.
Washington’s 2-0 record has not eased Klatt’s concerns. He cited a 16-14 win over Utah State, an offence that has not clicked and injuries to the team’s top two running backs, Christian Moss and Rashid Williams.
For Florida State, Klatt pointed to broader institutional and competitive pressures. He cited the Seminoles’ 3-14 record in their past 17 ACC games, reported debt of $437 million for the 2025 fiscal year, roster limitations and a difficult upcoming schedule. He also said a potential mid-season dismissal of Mike Norvell could carry a reported $50 million obligation.
Klatt said UCLA and Chesney were continuing to meet the expectations set during the off-season. The wider Week 2 picture also included Texas moving to No. 1 in the rankings.
