49ers place rookie receiver De’Zhaun Stribling on injured reserve
The ankle injury sustained against the Los Angeles Rams is expected to sideline the San Francisco rookie for at least four games.
The San Francisco 49ers have placed rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling on injured reserve after he injured his ankle against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1.
Fox Sports reported that Stribling is expected to miss at least four games. The exact nature and severity of the injury, and a return date beyond that minimum period, have not been specified.
Stribling initially returned after suffering the injury late in the first quarter, but went down again on the 49ers’ next drive and was carted from the field.
The placement further reduces the options in a San Francisco receiving group already reported to be without Ricky Pearsall for the season with a knee injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan ruled out an initially speculated Achilles tear, according to Fox Sports.
Stribling did not record a catch in his NFL debut. His absence is expected to increase the workload for Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel and Demarcus Robinson, who combined for 14 catches, 147 yards and three touchdowns against the Rams.
