KKR edge MI in rain-affected thriller to keep playoff hopes alive
Kolkata Knight Riders secured a four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens, with Manish Pandey and Rovman Powell anchoring a successful chase of 148.

Kolkata Knight Riders maintained their position in the Indian Premier League 2026 playoff race with a four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens on 21 May 2026. The rain-interrupted match concluded with Kolkata chasing down a target of 148 in 18.5 overs, a result that keeps their campaign alive as the league enters its final round.
Mumbai Indians’ innings was defined by early structural failure. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowling attack, featuring two wickets each from Saurabh Dubey, Cameron Green, and Kartik Tyagi, dismantled the top order. Mumbai slipped to 41 for 4 inside the powerplay following the dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton, and Suryakumar Yadav.
Captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma attempted to stabilise the innings with a 43-run partnership off 49 balls. However, it was Corbin Bosch who provided the necessary momentum, scoring an unbeaten 32 off 18 deliveries to guide Mumbai to a total of 147 for 8.
In response, Kolkata Knight Riders faced early pressure but found stability through a composed 45 from Manish Pandey. He shared a crucial 64-run partnership with Rovman Powell, who contributed 40 runs, shifting the momentum firmly in Kolkata’s favour.
Despite late wickets, Kolkata reached the target with one ball to spare. Rinku Singh hit the winning runs, securing the victory. The win occurs alongside other league developments, including Gujarat Titans’ defeat of Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad, underscoring the tight nature of the current playoff standings.
