Kentucky Wildcats roster depth confirmed as seven players make Panini Senior Bowl Top 300
Seven upperclassmen selected for the 2027 NFL Draft watch list, signalling a stable foundation under new head coach Will Stein.
Seven Kentucky Wildcats football players have been named to the Panini Senior Bowl preseason Top 300 watch list, an early-season indicator of the roster’s depth ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft. The selection, reported by Yahoo Sports, places the programme among those with significant NFL-calibre talent, marking one of the larger hauls in recent Kentucky history.
The group consists of four offensive players and three defensive players. Notably, all seven honourees are upperclassmen who opted to remain at the university during the coaching transition rather than entering the transfer portal. This retention is viewed as a positive signal for the stability of the squad following the departure of long-time head coach Mark Stoops after a 13-year tenure.
New head coach Will Stein assumed the role in December, bringing in new offensive coordinator Joe Sloan and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman. The presence of these players on the watch list suggests that the foundation inherited by the new staff is robust, despite the programme’s struggles in previous seasons.
Among the offensive selections is tight end Willie Rodriguez, a Northern Kentucky product who chose to stay with the team. As a sophomore in 2025, Rodriguez recorded 23 receptions for 310 yards and one touchdown. He is entering his junior year as a key component of the passing game under Sloan.
Offensive linemen Coleton Price and Lance Heard also made the list. Price arrived from Baylor as the top-ranked interior lineman in the recent transfer portal cycle and is expected to anchor the new offensive line. Heard, a 6-foot-6, 325-pound left tackle, has played for three SEC programmes, including LSU, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He earned All-SEC Third Team honours at Tennessee and has allowed just three sacks across more than 1,700 career snaps.
Wide receiver Nic Anderson, who previously played at Oklahoma and LSU, is another notable inclusion. Although his time at previous schools was limited by injuries, including a lost 2024 season, he is considered a high-talent prospect. Anderson is reuniting with coordinator Sloan, who originally recruited him to LSU.
On defence, lineman Tavion Gadson was selected. A native of Savannah, Georgia, Gadson recorded 28 tackles, four tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in 11 games last season despite starting only once. He is expected to assume a larger role in Bateman’s defensive scheme for the 2026 season.
