Kentucky opens Will Stein era with 45–13 win over Youngstown State
Kenny Minchey threw four touchdown passes as Kentucky scored on its first three possessions in Stein’s debut.
Kentucky began Will Stein’s tenure with a 45–13 victory over Youngstown State, opening the game with touchdowns on each of its first three possessions.
Quarterback Kenny Minchey completed 18 of 27 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He completed nine of his first 10 attempts and connected with nine different receivers.
Three tailbacks shared Kentucky’s workload, with CJ Baxter scoring the Wildcats’ first two touchdowns. Kentucky also scored on four of its five first-half drives.
The result lifted Kentucky to 1–0, while Youngstown State dropped to 1–1. Stein arrived from Oregon, where he reportedly coordinated a high-scoring offence for the previous three seasons.
Kentucky’s next listed assignment is an SEC opener against Alabama, a substantially tougher opponent than Youngstown State, an FCS team.
