Katie Taylor retires after Croke Park victory over Flora Pili
The Irish boxer ends her career with 26 wins and one defeat after a farewell victory before a reported 83,000 fans in Dublin.
Katie Taylor has retired from professional boxing after defeating Flora Pili at Dublin’s Croke Park, closing a career that made her a three-time, two-weight undisputed champion.
BBC Sport reported that Taylor, 40, won her final bout in front of 83,000 fans. She said the atmosphere exceeded her expectations and described the ending as a dream farewell.
Taylor began boxing 30 years ago and won Ireland’s first sanctioned women’s bout in 2001. Her Olympic gold medal at London 2012 helped raise the profile of women’s boxing.
In 2022, Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano in the first women’s bout to headline Madison Square Garden. She later avenged her professional defeat by Chantelle Cameron and became a two-weight champion.
Taylor paid tribute to her mother, Bridget, after the Croke Park victory and indicated she may remain involved in boxing, although no specific future role has been confirmed.
