Kane weighs NFL kicking option after football
The England captain says a switch remains years away and would require extensive preparation, while contract talks with Bayern Munich continue.
Harry Kane is considering an eventual move into American football as an NFL kicker, but says the possibility depends on how his football career develops over the next five or six years. Speaking at England’s UEFA Nations League training camp, he described the NFL as more realistic than a future in golf.
The 33-year-old, England’s leading international goal scorer with 85 goals in 121 appearances, said his penalty-taking experience might offer a starting point. He also cautioned that elite sport can look easier from the sidelines than it is in practice.
Kane said he would take any switch seriously, estimating he might need six months to a year of practice beforehand. He floated a possible spell in Major League Soccer as a way to connect the football and NFL seasons.
His comments, reported by Al Jazeera, describe a future option rather than a decision to change sports. Kane remains focused on football, with talks over a new Bayern Munich contract progressing.
He said some details still needed to be resolved and that an announcement was not expected to be far off.
