Jose Altuve reaches 2,500 regular-season MLB hits with Astros
The Houston second baseman joined Craig Biggio as the only Astros players to reach the milestone.
Jose Altuve reached 2,500 regular-season Major League Baseball hits with a third-inning double for the Houston Astros against the Philadelphia Phillies.
With two outs, Altuve hit a first-pitch sinker from Phillies left-hander Christopher Sánchez to centre field and advanced to second base. He became the 103rd player to reach 2,500 regular-season hits, according to Baseball Reference.
Altuve is now one of two active MLB players at the mark, alongside Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman. He also joined Craig Biggio as the only players to record 2,500 hits with the Astros.
The 36-year-old reached the milestone in his 2,094th regular-season game. The achievement came during a season in which he began with 2,388 hits and missed about two and a half weeks with an oblique injury.
Yahoo Sports reported that Altuve had 111 hits in 117 games before reaching the mark and was batting .247. He recorded 185 hits in 2024 and 156 in 2025.
Altuve is signed through 2029, leaving the possibility of a pursuit of 3,000 hits. Reaching that total would require sustained health, playing time and production; only 33 players have reached 3,000 MLB hits.
