New York Jets cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers was transported to a local hospital on Tuesday after collapsing during a joint training camp practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The incident occurred ahead of the teams' scheduled preseason game at MetLife Stadium on Friday.
Head coach Aaron Glenn provided an update to reporters following the practice, confirming that Stiggers was conscious and able to speak by the time he was taken by ambulance. Glenn noted that the player had come to the sideline after a play and subsequently fell out.
Glenn praised the medical staff for taking the necessary steps to manage the situation, stating that the team was doing everything possible to ensure the player's wellbeing. He expressed his intention to visit Stiggers after the practice to personally verify his condition.
Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips reported to teammates that "things are on the up and up," indicating a stable status. However, the specific medical cause of the collapse remains unclear, and the exact nature of his condition upon arrival at the hospital has not been fully detailed beyond his ability to communicate.
Stiggers, 24, is in his third season with the Jets after being selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. His path to the league was unconventional, as he did not play college football, instead playing arena-league 7-on-7 football and for the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL. He was the fifth player drafted into the NFL without college football experience since 1970.
During the 2025 season, Stiggers appeared in 15 games with four starts, recording 27 total tackles and three passes defended. He is the latest player to face a medical challenge during training camp, with the league's medical protocols being tested once again.
