Israeli attack on Gaza kills three family members, including infant
Medical officials identify victims as family members; Israeli military remains silent

An Israeli air strike on an apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza has killed three members of a family, including a six-month-old infant, according to medical workers at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The bodies of Mohammad Abu Mallouh, his wife Alaa Zaqlan, and their child, Osama, were received by the hospital in Deir el-Balah in the early hours of Sunday morning. Approximately 10 other people were reported wounded in the attack.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military regarding the specific incident. The strike occurred as Palestinians were fleeing following forced displacement orders, with reports indicating that Israeli bombing began on Sunday morning. Witnesses described civilians running while carrying personal belongings, including mattresses, as they attempted to evade the violence.

The incident underscores the fragility of the ceasefire brokered by the United States in October 2023. Gaza health authorities report that nearly 900 people have been killed in near-daily attacks since the truce began. The Gaza Government Media Office has documented at least 2,400 alleged ceasefire violations in the first six months of the agreement, including more than 1,100 air raids and at least 921 shootings targeting civilians.

Israeli forces continued to demolish homes and civilian infrastructure in eastern Gaza on Sunday behind the so-called “Yellow Line,” referring to Israeli-designated military zones and buffer areas inside the enclave. Israeli jets also carried out air raids on Deir el-Balah, causing extensive damage near a hospital, according to reporting from Gaza City.

Negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at reaching a permanent end to the war have stalled, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire. Israel cites Hamas’s refusal to disarm as a key obstacle, while the Palestinian group states that negotiations have paused due to continued violations and restrictions on aid entering Gaza.

More than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict escalated in October 2023. Israeli officials acknowledged this figure was broadly accurate in January, after previously casting doubt on its credibility. Earlier this month, Human Rights Watch warned that humanitarian infrastructure in Gaza remains in peril, more than six months after the start of the ceasefire.
