Iran has formally summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires to Tehran, marking a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions following a Ukrainian long-range strike in the Caspian Sea. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incident as a “hostile and criminal” act, explicitly describing it as a violation of the United Nations Charter.
The summons comes after Tehran accused Kyiv of launching a strike that damaged one of its commercial vessels. In its official statement, the Iranian government characterised the attack on the asset as a direct breach of international norms, signalling a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations.
