iOS 27 brings receipt scanning and physical pass support to Apple Wallet

Apple’s iOS 27 update will add Visual Intelligence tools designed to simplify group bill payments and the management of Apple Wallet passes, according to Engadget.

The feature can use an iPhone camera to scan an itemised receipt, identify individual items and account for taxes, tips, discounts and shared charges. Users can then select contacts, review the proposed amounts and send Apple Cash payment requests.

The tools require a compatible iPhone running iOS 27, an itemised receipt that can be read by the camera and Apple Cash enabled for the participating contacts. Apple Cash availability and functionality may vary by region and user setup.

Visual Intelligence will also scan compatible physical boarding passes, loyalty cards and tickets for possible addition to Apple Wallet. Recognition will depend on the issuer, and some passes may still need to be added through an airline, venue or retailer’s official Wallet process.

Users will be able to add Visual Intelligence to Control Centre for quicker access. Existing Wallet passes can also be rearranged by touching and dragging them.

The features are available in the iOS 27 public and developer betas. An official release is expected in autumn, although Apple has not provided a specific date, and the beta functionality may change before launch.
