iOS 27 beta reportedly removes passport-linked Digital IDs from Apple Wallet
Some users reported their passport-linked Digital IDs disappearing from Wallet while running the iOS 27 beta. Re-adding the passport appears to restore access.
Some iPhone users running the iOS 27 beta have reportedly found their passport-linked Digital IDs missing from Apple Wallet, according to Engadget.
The reports, published on X, suggest the glitch affected some travellers using Apple’s Digital ID feature. Re-adding the passport to Wallet appears to restore the Digital ID, although the precise cause and scale of the issue remain unclear.
Apple introduced Digital ID with iOS 26 in 2025. The feature stores a digital version of a passport in Wallet and remains available in iOS 27, including beta releases.
The Digital ID cannot replace a physical passport or be used to enter another country. It can, however, be used at Transportation Security Administration checkpoints at more than 250 US airports.
The reports did not identify an official Apple confirmation or a specific iOS 27 beta build linked to the problem. The incident highlights the risk of using unfinished beta software on devices relied on for travel.
