Inter Milan set to offload Luis Henrique to Roma as squad restructuring accelerates
With Inter Milan moving to clear the squad for new signings, the potential departure of Luis Henrique to AS Roma highlights the financial mechanics driving the club’s summer strategy.
Inter Milan have formally informed Brazilian winger Luis Henrique that he is free to leave the club this summer, signalling a decisive shift in the squad’s composition. According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, the Nerazzurri have placed the 24-year-old on the transfer market, with AS Roma reportedly closing in on a deal valued at just under €30 million.
The proposed move is a critical component of Inter’s broader financial strategy to reduce squad size and raise capital for incoming acquisitions. The club is actively pursuing deals for Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence, with a valuation of €31.5 million plus add-ons that could rise to €35 million, and Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who is expected to cost in excess of €35 million.
Despite the proximity of a fee agreement between the clubs, the transaction remains uncertain due to the player’s stance on personal terms. Fabrizio Romano, citing sources on his Italian-language YouTube channel, indicated that Henrique remains unconvinced by the prospect of moving to the Stadio Olimpico. Significant salary demands from the winger are reportedly a point of contention, with Roma unwilling to meet the full extent of the request.
The pattern of squad reduction was already evident with the agreed departure of Davide Frattesi to Lazio. The structure for Frattesi’s loan includes a €1 million fee and an obligation to buy for €14 million under specific conditions. Notably, this arrangement covers only half of Inter’s stated €30 million valuation for the player, as the club retains 50 per cent of any future resale fee, a model likely to influence subsequent negotiations.
Meanwhile, the club’s immediate focus remains on finalising incoming transfers. Djed Spence is expected to arrive in Milan on Thursday to undergo a medical and sign his contract, underscoring the urgency of the outgoing sales. Whether Henrique accepts a switch just a year after arriving at San Siro will depend on whether Roma can bridge the gap on his salary expectations.
