Dern and Robertson set for violent strawweight clash at UFC 330
The co-main event marks the UFC’s first women’s title fight of 2026, with both fighters predicting a late-stoppage contest at Philadelphia’s Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Mackenzie Dern will make the first defence of her UFC strawweight title against Gillian Robertson at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on Saturday. The co-main event serves as the promotion’s first women’s championship bout of 2026, taking place inside the Xfinity Mobile Arena.
The matchup pits the champion against a submission specialist who holds the UFC female records for the most career submissions and finishes. Robertson, a 31-year-old Canadian, aims to become the first female fighter from her country to capture UFC gold, joining Carlos Newton and Georges St-Pierre as the only Canadians to achieve the feat.
Dern, the daughter of Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Wellington Dias, enters the bout as a slight betting favourite. She has won three consecutive fights, including a decision victory over Virna Jandiroba in October last year to claim the vacant title. Dern reports that her performance has improved by approximately 30 per cent since winning the belt, citing enhanced punching and kicking capabilities.
Robertson, who made her UFC debut in 2017, has won seven of her last eight fights since 2022. She plans to neutralise Dern’s grappling by utilising wrestling and elbows to create a physically demanding contest. Robertson has stated she intends to make the fight "ugly" and drown Dern in the clinch, believing her ground and pound will be more effective than the champion’s.
Both fighters anticipate a violent, late-stoppage bout. While Robertson aims to wear Dern down early, Dern has specifically targeted a submission in the fourth or fifth round. Dern, who has an elite chin and has faced previous defeats before refining her striking under coach Jason Parillo, believes her instinct and intensity will exploit holes in Robertson’s game.
