Inter Milan secure Djed Spence in £25.6m transfer from Tottenham
The 26-year-old full-back becomes the second English player to join Inter this summer, following John Stones, as Tottenham look to reshape their defensive options.
Inter Milan have finalised the signing of England full-back Djed Spence from Tottenham Hotspur, securing the 26-year-old on a five-year contract. The Serie A champions are understood to have paid a fee of approximately 30 million euros, equivalent to £25.6 million, for the defender.
Spence arrives at the San Siro as the second English player to join the Italian side this summer, following the arrival of John Stones after his departure from Manchester City. His move marks a significant shift in Tottenham’s defensive landscape, with first-choice right-back Pedro Porro recently signing a new deal and left-back Andy Robertson having been acquired from Liverpool.
The transfer follows a period of uncertainty at Tottenham, where manager Roberto de Zerbi had expressed a desire to retain Spence in July. Despite this, the defender made 44 appearances for Spurs across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign and helped the north London club secure the 2024-25 Europa League title.
Spence’s decision to leave was effectively confirmed via social media, where he posted a farewell message to Tottenham supporters. He reflected on his time at the club, citing his journey and specifically referencing the European final in Bilbao, while thanking staff, players, and fans for their support during his tenure.
The 26-year-old brings recent international experience to Inter, having featured in all eight of England’s matches at the 2026 World Cup under Thomas Tuchel, where the national team finished third. This will be Spence’s second stint in Italian football, following a six-month loan spell at Genoa in 2024. He initially joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in 2022 for an initial fee of £12.5 million, making a total of 85 appearances for the club.
