Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark Unaware of Technical Foul in Victory Over Valkyries
Caitlin Clark and head coach Stephanie White were not informed of a technical foul assessed during the Indiana Fever’s 90-82 victory over the Golden State Valkyries on Friday.

The Indiana Fever secured their second consecutive victory on Friday, defeating the Golden State Valkyries 90-82 in a contest that featured a significant post-game revelation regarding officiating communication. Caitlin Clark returned to the starting lineup after missing the previous match against the Portland Fire due to back stiffness, contributing 22 points, nine assists, and two rebounds in 32 minutes of play.
During the second half, Clark was involved in a physical exchange with Valkyries player Janelle Salaun, which resulted in a technical foul being assessed to the Fever guard. According to reports, Salaun shoved Clark in the back, prompting a reaction from Clark that led to the infraction. However, neither Clark nor head coach Stephanie White were aware that the technical had been called at the time of the incident.
Following the game, Clark expressed surprise upon learning of the call. “Oh, did I get a technical?” she asked, noting that she had not been informed by the officials. She acknowledged the potential consequences, stating, “I could have got ejected in the second half. Okay, well, guess I have some fines coming my way.” Clark later estimated the financial penalty associated with the infraction to be approximately $1,000.
Head coach Stephanie White echoed Clark’s surprise during post-game remarks, indicating that the coaching staff had also been left uninformed. “I guess they announced it, but nobody told us. I thought the officials would have told us,” White said. The lack of immediate notification meant the coaching staff was not managing the situation with the awareness that a second technical would have resulted in ejection.
The victory marks a positive turn for the Fever, who had faced scrutiny regarding the management of Clark’s injury situation in the lead-up to the game. With Clark back in the rotation, the team has now won two games in a row, one without her participation and one with her, suggesting a return to form for the franchise.
