India have retained the Asian Games women’s cricket gold medal after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final.
India scored 216-3 from 20 overs before Sri Lanka were dismissed for 69 in 15.4 overs. Al Jazeera described India’s total as the highest women’s score in Asian Games history.
Smriti Mandhana led the Indian innings with 79 from 45 balls, including seven sixes and five fours. Richa Ghosh added 49 from 22 balls, with India passing 200 in the final over.
Sri Lanka’s innings was led by captain Chamari Athapaththu, who scored 29, but the team could not build a response and settled for silver.
Pakistan won the bronze medal after defeating Bangladesh by 31 runs. Pakistan made 145-8, with captain Fatima Sana scoring 45, before Bangladesh finished on 114-7.
