Île-de-France Mobilités announces unprecedented summer transport overhaul
Paris and the wider Île-de-France region face significant public transport disruptions this summer due to planned major infrastructure works. Announced by Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), these works will affect RER, metro, Transilien, and tram services, with impacts expected to peak between mid-July and mid-August. The closures and reduced capacity will restrict access to key tourist destinations, including Disneyland Paris, Versailles, Notre-Dame, Montmartre, and Saint-Denis, as well as Charles-de-Gaulle Airport. Commuters and visitors are advised to consult official apps from RATP, SNCF, or IDFM and allow extra time for journeys.

Paris and the wider Île-de-France region are preparing for significant public transport disruptions throughout the summer of 2026 due to planned major infrastructure works.
IDFM warned of "unprecedented major works" back in April, setting the stage for a summer of constrained mobility. The authority has outlined specific closures and reduced services across the network, with the most critical period running from July 25 to August 16. During this window, RER B services connecting Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport to the capital will face closures between Gare du Nord and the southern end of the line, resulting in additional changes and longer journey times.
Access to major tourist sites will be significantly impacted. The RER A line, which serves Disneyland Paris, will see the Nation station closed from June 29 to August 30, with a section between Vincennes and Noisy-le-Grand Mont d’Est closed from August 8 to 23. Travelers will need to use shuttle buses, extending journey times by more than 50 minutes. Similarly, RER C services to Versailles will be suspended between Paris Austerlitz and Versailles Château Rive Gauche from July 15 to August 22, forcing passengers to use Transilien lines N or L.
Metro lines 4, 12, 13, and 8 will also face closures or reduced capacity, affecting access to landmarks such as Notre-Dame, Montmartre, and Saint-Denis. Line 4 will be closed between Les Halles and Montparnasse-Bienvenüe from July 6 to 24, while line 12 will be shut between Jules Joffrin and Concorde from July 16 to 26. Line 13 will see the section between Saint-Denis - Université and La Fourche completely closed from July 31 to August 17, and line 8 will have no services between Balard and Concorde from August 20 to 27.
Transilien lines H, K, L, and P will experience lengthy service disruptions, night-time closures, and limited services, particularly between mid-July and mid-August. Lines H and K will be suspended or significantly reduced during the peak period, while line P will operate on a restricted basis with replacement buses. The tram network is also affected, with T1 closed between Bobigny-Pablo Picasso and Gare de Noisy-le-Sec from June 1 to August 31, and sections of T2 and T3 closed between July 13 and August 28.
Commuters and tourists are advised to check routes via RATP, SNCF, or Île-de-France Mobilités apps and allow for longer journey times. The disruptions are part of a broader modernisation effort, but the immediate impact will be a significant reduction in network capacity and increased travel times for those navigating the capital and its suburbs.
