Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s job was not in jeopardy after the team’s 30–23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks left Los Angeles with an 0–4 record.

“No, his job is not in jeopardy,” Harbaugh said, according to CBS Sports, which cited the Associated Press. He described McDaniel as a skilled coach and said the team would keep growing.

The Chargers are averaging 16.8 points and 185.3 passing yards per game, according to CBS Sports. The report says the passing average is on pace to be the team’s lowest full-season figure since 1998.

Quarterback Justin Herbert had three turnovers against Seattle and has thrown six interceptions and been sacked 12 times through four games. Harbaugh had urged Herbert to improve as the offence’s orchestrator after a Week 3 loss to Buffalo.

McDaniel previously accepted responsibility for the offence’s difficulties, saying he was “fully responsible”. Harbaugh’s latest comments affirm his public backing of the coordinator, while leaving the Chargers’ path to improvement unresolved.
