Hamza Abdelkarim’s Barcelona breakthrough raises expectations around Egypt’s teenage striker

Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim has emerged as a Barcelona prospect after scoring four goals in five pre-season matches and making his official debut as a late substitute against Rayo Vallecano.
The 18-year-old joined Barcelona from Al Ahly after a temporary move was shortened by paperwork issues. According to Al Jazeera, Barcelona made the transfer permanent in June for €1.5 million.
Abdelkarim also scored six goals in 11 appearances for Barcelona’s Under-19 side and found the net against Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy. His performances have drawn attention despite his limited senior experience before arriving in Spain.
Barcelona is reportedly seeking to raise the striker’s €15 million buyout clause to €150 million, although the proposed change has not been confirmed. The move would provide greater protection against rival clubs attempting to sign him.
Coach Hansi Flick has said Abdelkarim “deserves to play, and he will play”, while ESPN commentator Adrian Healey described the teenager as offering something different. Abdelkarim’s next target is his first official goal for Barcelona.
