Google unveils 2026 hardware lineup with price hikes and AI focus
The tech giant raises smartphone prices by $100 and introduces a dedicated location tracker, while leaning heavily on on-device AI for health and camera features.
Google has announced its 2026 hardware ecosystem, revealing the Pixel 11 smartphone series, the Pixel Watch 5, and the new Pixel Tag location tracker. The announcement, reported by Ars Technica, marks a strategic shift towards deeper artificial intelligence integration and curated user experiences, accompanied by a broad increase in pricing across the product range.
The Pixel 11 series is powered by the new Tensor G6 chipset, which Google claims delivers a 20 per cent improvement in power efficiency and 25 per cent faster browsing speeds. Despite these efficiency gains, the company has reduced battery capacities across the flat models by under 100 mAh and dropped 200 mAh from the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The Pro models feature a new RGB notification LED system called HiLight within the flash assembly, designed to indicate Gemini AI activity or incoming calls from specific contacts without requiring the user to look at the screen.
Hardware design tweaks include brighter displays, with Pro models reaching 3,600 nits, and a thinner camera bar on the base model. Camera capabilities have been expanded with new digital zoom ranges of 30x on base models and 120x on Pro versions. Software innovations include Magic Capture for automated shutter timing and Camera Looks, which allows users to customise HDR+ processing styles while maintaining skin tone accuracy.
The Pixel Watch 5 utilises the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor to enhance on-device AI tasks. Health tracking features have been expanded to include AI-estimated blood pressure trends and monthly insulin sensitivity assessments, derived from pulse, movement, and sleep data. These health metrics will also be rolled out to older devices, including the Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, and Fitbit Air.
Google’s entry into the item-tracking market is marked by the Pixel Tag, a $29 device that uses ultra-wideband technology and the Android Find Hub network to locate items. The tracker is IP67 resistant and features a replaceable CR2032 battery. Pre-orders for the new hardware are open immediately, with the Pixel 11 and Pixel Watch 5 shipping on 20 August 2026, and the Pixel Tag launching on 11 November 2026.
