Google sets ChromeOS support through mid-2034 for enterprise and education
Google says many newer Chromebooks may move to its Android-based Googlebook OS, but eligibility and migration timing remain unclear.
Google will continue issuing ChromeOS updates and security patches for enterprise and education users until mid-2034, according to a support page cited by Engadget. The company has not clarified whether the same timeline applies to consumer users.
Google says qualifying Chromebooks whose 10-year support periods extend beyond 2034 will be supported through a transition to Googlebook OS. Many newer devices may be eligible, with some offering direct migration paths.
The company has yet to publish eligibility criteria or a migration schedule, and says it will share more details soon.
Googlebook OS is an Android-based operating system for the company’s new laptops. The first Googlebooks are due to arrive on 4 October, while the first device-management features for enterprise and education users are planned for the second half of 2027.
