Discord plans to begin rolling out an experimental Game Mode next week, a setting intended to reduce the app’s CPU and GPU use while a game is running.

The company confirmed the rollout on X after screenshots of the setting circulated on social media. Discord says it aims to add more resource-saving features over time.

The mode’s description says it will reduce Discord’s processor and graphics chip usage during gameplay. Discord has not provided performance measurements showing whether it achieves that aim, or details on how the setting works.

The company has not specified which users or platforms will receive the feature first, how widely it will roll out or when the rollout will be complete.

Discord is built on Electron, which uses JavaScript and Chromium. Engadget noted that this architecture may limit how far the app can be streamlined, but Discord has not said how it affects Game Mode.
