Boox opens pre-orders for compact Picco e-reader at US$100
The 3.97-inch monochrome device supports multiple ebook formats and includes utility apps. Shipments are expected to begin in November.
Boox has opened pre-orders for the Picco, a palm-sized e-reader with a 3.97-inch monochrome screen. The device costs US$100, with shipping expected in November, according to WIRED’s report on the announcement.
The Picco has a touchscreen, physical page-turn buttons and an adjustable front light with warm and cool settings. Boox says its microSD slot supports cards up to 2 TB; a 16 GB card is included.
Books can be added through the web or USB-C file transfer. The device also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and is the first model in Boox’s Tiles lineup. Boox says its streamlined operating system is focused on reading and digital utility tools.
Included apps are Pomodoro, Todo and Countdown. The case has a magnetic ring designed to attach the reader to a smartphone, though WIRED said fit and magnetic strength had not been tested.
The announcement describes support for multiple ebook formats but does not name them. WIRED also noted that accessing books may be less convenient than through Kindle or Kobo’s built-in stores.
