Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper announces throat cancer diagnosis
The long-time San Francisco Giants announcer has begun treatment and says he plans to return for at least one more game during the 2026 MLB season.
San Francisco Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper has announced he has throat cancer and began treatment last week with doctors at Stanford Medicine.
Kuiper, 76, said the diagnosis is unrelated to the cancer he had in 2021. He said he remains optimistic that the condition will be successfully treated, although no further details about the cancer were provided.
He said he would miss two broadcasts while continuing treatment, but plans to return to the booth for at least one more Giants game before the end of the 2026 MLB season.
Kuiper also said he hoped to return to celebrate the final game of his broadcast partner Mike Krukow, who is retiring. The pair have called Giants games together for decades.
Kuiper has been a prominent voice of the Giants since 1982, apart from a brief period calling games for the Colorado Rockies. He also missed part of the 2021 season during his previous cancer treatment.
