Geraldo Perdomo leaves Diamondbacks game after helmet strike
Arizona shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was ruled out with a head contusion after a reported 93 mph line drive struck his helmet against Houston.
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo left the team’s game against the Houston Astros on 6 September after a line drive struck his helmet while he was on the basepaths.
Perdomo had singled in the third inning before teammate Ketel Marte hit the reported 93 mph line drive. Perdomo attempted to protect himself but was hit and fell to the ground.
A trainer assessed Perdomo before he got up and left the field under his own power. He was ruled out after being struck by a batted ball.
The Diamondbacks said Perdomo suffered a head contusion and would continue to be monitored. The team provided no recovery timeline or further detail on the injury.
Ildemaro Vargas replaced Perdomo at shortstop, while Tim Tawa moved to first base. Nolan Arenado hit a two-run home run in the same inning as Arizona took a 3–1 lead.
