Genesis unveils GV90 NeoLun luxury electric SUV with coach doors

Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Group, has unveiled the GV90 NeoLun, a flagship electric SUV designed to compete in the ultra-premium market. The vehicle, whose name translates to “New Moon,” is built on the all-new eMP platform and is scheduled to go on sale in early 2027. The model distinguishes itself with a focus on cabin space and refined ride quality, utilising an adjustable multi-chamber air suspension system.

The most notable engineering feature is the adoption of coach doors, which provide a wide opening for entry and egress. To address safety and mechanical interference, Genesis implemented a “dual-motion hinge” system. This mechanism allows the rear doors to slide slightly outward before rotating open, enabling them to operate independently without impeding the front doors. The vehicle’s structure integrates dual high-strength steel beams and a cabin frame that is 50 per cent thicker than conventional vehicles, acting as a concealed roll cage.

Powertrain specifications include a 123.5 kWh battery pack, the largest ever used on a Hyundai Motor Group vehicle. This setup provides a range of 311 miles on a single charge. The two-motor drive system delivers 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, though Genesis has not yet released acceleration times. If connected to a 350kW fast charger, the vehicle can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with a 23.6-inch “Cinematic Display” that expands to 24.6 inches when the vehicle is parked. A 25-inch heads-up display replaces the traditional gauge cluster, showing speed, navigation, and driver-assistance functions. The interior features swivelling front seats for face-to-face conversation, wood veneer flooring with radiant heating, and a 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system.

Additional luxury elements include a Smart Vision Roof with six adjustable opacity zones and active rear-wheel steering of up to five degrees. The design aesthetic features soft curves and a rounded rear end, drawing comparisons to established luxury marques such as Rolls Royce and Land Rover. Material choices include natural woods, cashmere, leather, and stone, with five available interior colour combinations.

While exact weight figures have not been released, the combination of the large battery, reinforced body, and air suspension suggests the GV90 NeoLun may be one of the heaviest SUVs produced. Pricing has not been officially announced, but estimates indicate the model will likely start in the $100,000 range.
