Gaza officials cite 2,400 ceasefire breaches amid new civilian strike in Beit Lahia
A fresh air strike in northern Gaza has killed five people, including three children, as regional authorities continue to document systematic failures in the October agreement.

An Israeli air strike targeting civilians near the Al-Qassam mosque in Beit Lahia has resulted in the deaths of at least five Palestinians, according to Gaza's civil defence agency. The incident occurred late on Wednesday, with local health officials confirming that the victims included three children. Their bodies were subsequently transported to Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City for identification and processing.

Separately, Gaza officials have stated that Israel has committed 2,400 violations of the October ceasefire agreement struck with Hamas. The Government Media Office outlined that these breaches encompass a range of actions, including targeted strikes, arrests, blockades, and forced starvation affecting Gaza's residents. These claims underscore a persistent disconnect between the terms of the deal and the reality on the ground.

The context of these events is further illuminated by recent reporting from Save the Children, which noted in September that more than 20,000 children had been killed by Israeli forces over the past two years. The charity reported that the average rate of child fatalities reached at least one per hour, with thousands more suffering from injuries, trauma, or separation from their parents.

Gender-based mortality rates have also been highlighted by UN Women, which reported that an average of at least 47 women and girls were killed each day between October 2023 and December 2025. This totals more than 38,000 deaths in that period, including over 22,000 women and 16,000 girls. Sofia Calltorp, the agency's humanitarian action head, described the situation as a continuation of suffering despite the supposed ceasefire.

Since the US-brokered arrangement took effect in October, Gaza's health ministry records indicate that at least 786 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces. In the current month alone, at least 32 deaths have been recorded, including the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Mohammed Wishah by a drone strike west of Gaza City on April 8.

Beyond direct kinetic action, officials accuse Israel of violating the agreement by restricting the entry of agreed quantities of food, medicine, medical supplies, and shelter materials. Approximately 2.4 million Palestinians, including 1.5 million who have been displaced, are currently living in these desperate conditions within the enclave.
