The Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the LA Galaxy 3-0 on Wednesday, with Ryan Gauld reaching a club milestone and goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka recording his 11th clean sheet of the season.

According to the Associated Press report published by Yahoo Sports, Gauld became the first Vancouver player in the club’s MLS era to record 50 goals and 50 assists. He scored in the 57th minute after dribbling through traffic and shooting from the penalty spot.

Brian White opened the scoring in the eighth minute, heading forward Thomas Müller’s flick over the defence before volleying the ball home. Bruno Caicedo completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the 89th minute.

Takaoka made five saves and moved to within one shutout of LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for the MLS lead. Vancouver’s victory left the club three points clear of Houston at the top of the Western Conference, with a 14-5-4 record.

The Galaxy fell to 7-10-8 and have recorded two wins, three losses and a draw in their past six MLS matches. Los Angeles will host Seattle on Saturday, while Vancouver hosts Austin on Sunday.
