Gauff fights back to reach US Open semi-finals

Coco Gauff has reached the US Open semi-finals after recovering from a difficult opening set to defeat fifth seed Mirra Andreeva 2–6, 7–6 (7), 6–2, according to Al Jazeera.

The 2023 champion struggled to find her rhythm early, while Andreeva moved quickly through the opening games and took the first set.

Gauff regained momentum in the second set but faltered while serving for the match, committing three double faults and allowing Andreeva to level. She then saved two match points before forcing a deciding set.

The American controlled the final set, breaking Andreeva twice to close out the comeback. She told Al Jazeera that she had drawn inspiration from Frances Tiafoe’s comeback into the men’s semi-finals.

Gauff will face second seed Elena Rybakina, who defeated Zheng Qinwen earlier on Wednesday. Al Jazeera reported that Rybakina claimed the world number one ranking with that victory.
