Myles Garrett has acknowledged that his knee was not 100 per cent during the Los Angeles Rams’ 27–7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, adding uncertainty to the defensive end’s subdued debut for the club.

Garrett recorded no tackles and described his performance as “the worst version of myself that I’ve put out there”. He said his focus during the game had shifted towards managing his condition and that his priority ahead of Week 2 was “getting healthy”.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year missed most of the Rams’ training camp because of knee swelling, according to coach Sean McVay. Garrett did not identify which knee was affected, although ESPN reported he had worn a sleeve on his left leg during several practices.

McVay offered a different assessment when asked whether Garrett was fully healthy, saying: “To my knowledge, yeah.” The differing accounts leave Garrett’s fitness status dependent on his own assessment and the club’s understanding of his condition.

Garrett registered three individual pressures, while the Rams pressured 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on seven of 36 dropbacks. San Francisco left tackle Trent Williams said Garrett remained difficult to block despite not being fully healthy.

The Rams’ loss was Garrett’s first game without a tackle since Week 11 of the 2024 season and only the fourth such game of his career, according to ESPN Research. The available information does not establish whether the knee issue will affect his availability or performance in Week 2.
