Gamescom 2026 kicks off with Opening Night Live showcase
Geoff Keighley hosts the two-hour event on 25 August, featuring confirmed segments for major titles including Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Gears of War: E-Day.

The Gamescom 2026 festival will commence with the Opening Night Live showcase, a two-hour event scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM ET on 25 August. The presentation, which will be preceded by a 30-minute pre-show, is hosted by Geoff Keighley, who also presents The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest. While this specific showcase typically features fewer blockbuster announcements than Keighley’s other events, it is known for including surprises that warrant attention from the gaming community.
The event will be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch, allowing audiences to watch from anywhere without needing to be physically present in Cologne, Germany. Engadget, the source of the event details, has also indicated that it will provide a live blog for the occasion. This broad accessibility ensures that the opening night’s reveals reach a global audience of players and industry observers.
Several high-profile segments have been confirmed for the broadcast. Viewers can expect a fresh look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, a story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, and the latest peek at Silent Hill: Townfall. Additionally, the showcase will offer the first glimpse of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past expansion, marking a significant update for the long-running franchise.
Beyond these confirmed titles, the programme is expected to detail several other anticipated releases. These include Valor Mortis, a first-person Soulslike from the developers of the Ghostrunner series, and Pony Island 2, created by Daniel Mullins, the mind behind Inscryption. Other titles slated for discussion are Path of Exile 2, Monster Hunter Outlanders, Metro 2039, and a new grand strategy game from Paradox Interactive.
There is also speculation that the event may reveal a release date for The Duskbloods, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive from FromSoftware. This potential announcement follows the weekend’s network test, though the date remains unconfirmed. The possibility adds an element of uncertainty and anticipation to the opening night proceedings.
The Gamescom festivities extend beyond the initial showcase. On 26 August, the Future Games Show will take place at 1:00 PM ET, featuring more than 40 games, including 13 world premieres. Xbox will also stream from the event on YouTube and Twitch on 26 and 27 August, while CD Projekt Red will host several day-long streams starting on 26 August. These streams will include game previews, special guests, interviews, and behind-the-scenes stories.
The programming concludes with an Awesome Indies show on 27 August at 2:00 PM ET. This final event promises to highlight independent titles, rounding out a week of diverse content for the gaming industry. The combination of major publisher reveals and independent showcases underscores the breadth of the Gamescom 2026 schedule.
