Fudd makes history as first rookie to claim WNBA 3-point title

Azzi Fudd has become the first rookie in history to win the WNBA All-Star 3-point shooting contest, securing the title with a 30-point performance in the final round of Friday’s competition in Chicago. The Dallas Wings’ No. 1 overall draft pick defeated Portland Fire forward Bridget Carleton, who finished with 19 points after a difficult start that saw her miss her first three attempts.

Fudd, who was just the fourth rookie to compete in the event since its inception in 2006, advanced to the title round after scoring 24 points in the first round. In the final, she made every shot from the first rack and completed 20 of her 26 attempts. Her victory matches the winning score of 2025 champion Sabrina Ionescu, though Ionescu still holds the all-time record of 37 points set in 2023.

Following her win, Fudd issued a public challenge to NBA star Stephen Curry for a rematch. The two previously faced each other in a high school camp contest in 2018, where Curry won 20–16. Fudd, who was one of the first female campers invited to Curry’s SC30 Select Camp, stated she had been seeking a rematch since high school and noted she had already defeated Stephen and his brother Seth in a separate contest in China while they were touring with Under Armour.

The event also featured the inaugural WNBA Shooting Stars competition, where Team Washington defeated Team Seattle with a final score of 31–24. The competition features teams composed of three generations of players: a retired WNBA legend, a current player, and a top high school prospect from the Nike EYBL. Team Washington’s roster included WNBA legend Elena Delle Donne, Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin, and high school standout Jezelle "GG" Banks.

Team Washington secured their victory after Delle Donne helped the team advance to the championship round, though she joked that her stamina had declined. In the final round, Banks hit the winning shot after initial misses from the four-point spot, completing the win for a team that included Delle Donne’s former high school teammate. Banks credited the confidence provided by her veteran and legend teammates for her success in the inaugural event.
