Inter Miami defeated Cruz Azul 2–0 in Miami to win the 2026 Campeones Cup, the club’s first reported title in the competition.
Lionel Messi and Casemiro scored for Inter Miami, according to Yahoo Sports. The victory came against Cruz Azul, the reigning Liga MX champion, in a competition contested between the MLS Cup and Liga MX champions.
After the trophy presentation, Messi approached Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber twice. Yahoo Sports reported that Messi appeared animated during the exchanges, but neither man disclosed what they discussed.
The result adds to Inter Miami’s recent run of reported honours, following the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters’ Shield in 2024 and MLS Cup in 2025.
The source package also reports that Messi reached 100 goals for Inter Miami. The club’s latest title therefore combined a significant individual milestone with another addition to its growing trophy record.
