Seminoles finish one stroke behind Florida; top five teams advance to national championship

The Florida State University women’s golf team has secured second place at the NCAA Women’s Golf Tallahassee Regional, finishing one stroke behind the University of Florida. Seeded fourth, the Seminoles concluded the tournament at four under par, falling short of the leaders but maintaining their position within the qualification bracket for the national stage.

The final round at Seminole Legacy Golf Club was significantly impacted by inclement weather, including a nearly three-hour rain delay that created difficult playing conditions. Despite the disruption, the team managed to hold off challenges from other competitors to finish as runners-up, trailing Florida’s five-under-par total.

Sophomore Alexandra Gazzoli provided a standout performance for the Seminoles, shooting a career-best round of 68 to finish third on the individual leaderboard at four under par. She was the only FSU player to finish under par for the tournament, finishing four shots behind individual leader Johanna Sjursen of the University of Louisiana Monroe, who finished at eight under par.

The top five teams from the regional have advanced to the NCAA Championship tournament, which will be held at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. FSU’s second-place finish ensures their progression to the next stage of the competition, continuing a period of sustained success for the program.

Florida State is now seeking its fourth regional championship in six seasons. The Seminoles previously won the 2021 Louisville Regional, the 2022 Tallahassee Regional, and the 2023 Lexington Regional, the latter of which led to a Final Four appearance in the previous season. The event at Seminole Legacy Golf Club was open to the public with free entrance.
