Student protests have spread across France and continued for more than two weeks, with up to 500 schools expected to close fully or partially, France 24 reported.

The figure is an estimate, not a confirmed count of closures. It does not mean every affected school will shut completely.

France 24 reported that the unrest appears to have caught the Macron government off guard. The demonstrations have also added demands on French security forces.
