FRANCE 24’s week in pictures spans Syria protests, Quito fire and Dion return

FRANCE 24’s review of the week ending 20 September brings together images from protests, diplomacy, conflict zones, markets and public events, while offering limited detail on the scale or consequences of the developments pictured.
In Syria, protesters reportedly blocked tanker trucks near Tal Tamr on 16 September amid opposition to rising fuel prices. The gallery also showed smoke above residential neighbourhoods during a forest fire in Quito, Ecuador, but did not establish the fire’s cause or impact.
The political images included Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney meeting European figures in Strasbourg, amid his support for Canada becoming the European Union’s first associate member. Another image showed French President Emmanuel Macron meeting Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Paris.
FRANCE 24 also featured a polling station during Russian parliamentary voting in Donetsk, in Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine. The gallery showed Palestinian Civil Defence workers searching rubble in Gaza after Israeli strikes, and water tanks being unloaded at a camp for displaced Yemenis near Aden.
The selection extended to the New York Stock Exchange after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates, the Emmy Awards, Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote at the opening of the Dangote Refinery’s initial public offering, and Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé displaying solidarity with migrants in Ceuta.
Céline Dion appeared at the opening concert of her “Céline Dion Paris 2026” residency in Nanterre on 12 September, one of the gallery’s cultural highlights.
