Mike Norvell is under pressure early in the 2026 college football season after Florida State followed a 13-0 regular season and ACC championship in 2023 with losing records in each of the past two campaigns.

Florida State finished 2-10 in 2024 and 5-7 in 2025. Norvell’s reported record across six seasons is 38-34 overall and 22-26 in ACC play, putting renewed focus on whether the programme can meet expectations under his existing contract.

Fox Sports, citing On3.com, reports that Norvell’s eight-year agreement runs through 2031 and is valued at more than US$84 million. The deal reportedly includes a US$150,000 annual salary increase and provides Norvell with 85 per cent of his remaining salary and supplemental compensation if he is dismissed without cause.

On3.com estimates the potential buyout at about US$51 million if Florida State terminates Norvell during or before the 2026 season. That figure reportedly falls to roughly US$45.6 million if the decision is made after the season, with payments expected to be made in monthly instalments through 2031.

The contract was also reportedly restructured after the 2024 season, directing US$4.5 million towards institutional revenue-sharing initiatives. The buyout estimates have not been confirmed by Florida State or Norvell, and there is no indication in the supplied material that the university has decided to terminate him.
