Florida Softball Faces Crucial Decider Against Texas Tech in Super Regional
Keagan Rothrock expected to start for Florida as Texas Tech deploys a pitching combination of NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

Florida softball enters Game 3 of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional with a singular objective: securing their 14th appearance in the Women’s College World Series. The Gators squared the best-of-three series on Saturday with a 10-2 victory over Texas Tech, marking the first time in four years that Florida has been required to win two consecutive games to advance. The match is scheduled for Sunday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida.
The previous contest highlighted a significant disparity in intensity, with Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco acknowledging that his team was outplayed. Glasco noted that Florida appeared hungrier and more fiery, running off the field with greater urgency. He observed that the Gators played harder in all aspects of the game, a sentiment that suggests a shift in momentum as both programmes prepare for a decisive final match.
For Florida, the focus returns to pitcher Keagan Rothrock, who is expected to start after a remarkable recovery. Rothrock exited Friday’s 10-8 loss after just four innings due to fatigue exacerbated by extreme heat. Following treatment with intravenous fluids, the junior recovered to pitch a complete game in Saturday’s win, allowing only five hits and two runs. Her performance underscores the physical demands placed on Florida’s pitching staff during this high-stakes series.
Texas Tech faces the challenge of neutralising Florida’s offence with a pitching combination of NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry. Both pitchers struggled significantly in the previous game against the Gators. Kaitlyn Terry allowed two earned runs in five innings, while NiJaree Canady surrendered eight runs in 5⅔ innings. That performance by Canady marked the most runs she has conceded in a two-game stretch during her career, highlighting the offensive pressure Texas Tech must manage.
Broadcast coverage of the heavyweight showdown will be provided by a team including Beth Mowins, Michelle Smith, Jessica Mendoza, and Holly Rowe. As the Gators seek to close out the series, the outcome remains undetermined, with both teams aware that the margin for error is minimal. The result will determine whether Florida advances to the national stage or if Texas Tech forces a deeper tournament run.
