Five killed in Russian drone strikes across Ukraine as Ufa apartment hit
Regional authorities confirm civilian casualties in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia as cross-border drone activity results in injury in Russia’s Bashkortostan region.

At least five people have been killed and 11 injured in Russian attacks on Ukraine on Wednesday, according to regional authorities. A drone strike on a bus in the front-line city of Kherson killed four passengers and wounded four others, while separate attacks in Zaporizhzhia left one person dead and seven injured.
Kherson regional Governor Oleksandr Prokudin confirmed the bus attack occurred at approximately 8:50am local time (05:50 GMT). He stated that all casualties were passengers on the vehicle and posted images on Telegram showing a damaged yellow bus with shattered windows. Prokudin noted the wounded had been transported to hospital.
In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, regional Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that drones struck both residential and non-residential buildings, causing fires and structural damage. The strikes contributed to a broader pattern of civilian casualties, with the United Nations reporting 437 civilian deaths in Ukraine in July, the highest monthly toll since May 2022.
Russian forces also targeted a cargo vessel in the Black Sea near Odesa carrying military supplies, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. The ministry reported that its air defence systems downed 453 Ukrainian drones overnight across various regions.
In a separate incident within Russia, a drone hit an apartment building and several cars in Ufa, the capital of the Bashkortostan republic, injuring one person. Bashkortostan head Radiy Khabirov reported that a small fire broke out in an industrial area following the incident. The conflict remains stalled, with United States-backed talks failing to produce a resolution.
