FC Groningen secure Brandis as Peersman departs for Telstar
The Dutch club has completed the signing of Nikolas Brandis from AS Trencin on a contract running until the summer of 2030, replacing Marvin Peersman who has moved to Telstar.
FC Groningen have finalised the acquisition of 21-year-old defender Nikolas Brandis from AS Trencin, securing his services on a contract that extends until the summer of 2030. The move addresses a vacancy in the squad following the departure of Marvin Peersman, who has transferred to Telstar.
Brandis, a left-footed defender and product of the AS Trencin academy, arrives with established experience in senior competition. During the 2024/25 season, he spent a loan spell at second-tier club Puchov, where he made 22 appearances as his side finished ninth in the standings. This period provided the foundation for his progression to becoming a regular fixture in the Trencin starting lineup after breaking through in 2023.
The Slovak international brings additional pedigree from the youth ranks, holding 10 caps for the Slovakia U21 national team. His recruitment signals an intent to bolster the defensive line with a player who has already navigated the demands of professional football in the second tier and represented his country at the youth level.
Within the FC Groningen setup, Brandis is expected to provide immediate competition for the left-back position. He will vie for playing time alongside fellow young talent Wouter Prins, adding depth to the defensive options available to the coaching staff as they look to stabilise the back line for the upcoming campaign.
The transfer marks a strategic shift for the club, replacing a departing veteran with a long-term asset.
