FC Barcelona have formally abandoned their pursuit of Julián Álvarez after Atlético de Madrid refused to negotiate a transfer. The firm stance adopted by the Atlético board has forced the Catalan club to alter its strategic direction in the market.
In response, sports director Deco has identified Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez as the club’s top priority. This shift in focus comes at the specific request of manager Hansi Flick, signalling a clear directive from the technical staff regarding the squad’s needs.
The proposed move is considered complex, with journalist Gerard Romero of Jijantes FC describing a deal with Inter Milan as extremely difficult to complete. Despite these hurdles, Barcelona intend to explore every possible avenue to secure the player before the transfer window closes.
A key factor in Barcelona’s renewed effort is the reported willingness of Martínez to join the club. The Argentine forward has reportedly given his approval to wear the Barcelona shirt, providing the club with a crucial advantage in its negotiations.
