Ibrahim Maza is a major doubt for Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League opener against Slovenian club NK Celje on Wednesday after missing the team’s final training session with an infection.

The fitness update was reported by Kicker and carried by Yahoo Sports. Maza’s availability has not been ruled out, but he is expected to miss the match unless his condition improves before Wednesday evening.

Maza, a 20-year-old Algeria international, has scored once and provided two assists in four matches this season. His potential absence would remove one of Leverkusen’s attacking options for the opening fixture.

Malik Tillman is expected to come into the starting XI if Maza is ruled out. His selection has not been confirmed.
