Fairphone Enters US Market with Repairable 6+ Smartphone
The Fairphone 6+ marks the company’s first direct sales in the United States, available on Amazon with support for T-Mobile and AT&T networks.
Dutch manufacturer Fairphone has officially launched its Fairphone 6+ smartphone in the United States, marking the company’s first entry into the American market with a flagship mobile device. Priced at $649, the device is available for purchase on Amazon and Fairphone.com, with official certification for T-Mobile and AT&T networks at launch. This move represents a significant expansion for the Netherlands-based firm, which previously relied on a partnership with e/OS to sell modified, de-Googled versions of its phones to US consumers.
The Fairphone 6+ is positioned as a mid-range Android offering, equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor and 12GB of RAM. The device features a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 4,415 mAh battery supporting 30W fast-charging. Photography capabilities include a 50-megapixel Sony main sensor with an f/1.88 aperture, a 13-megapixel ultrawide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 32-megapixel front-facing sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
Fairphone’s primary value proposition remains its sustainability and repairability. The company highlights that the phone contains 12 replaceable parts, including the battery, cameras, USB-C port, and display, which can be swapped using a single screwdriver. This design philosophy is backed by a five-year warranty and software support commitments extending until 2033.
Raymond van Eck, Fairphone’s chief executive officer, stated that the device is built from the ground up to be opened, repaired, and kept alive for many years. The company claims a manufacturing carbon footprint of 30 kg of CO2e per unit, aiming to offer a durable alternative in a market where consumer gadget prices are rising amid component shortages.
The Fairphone 6+ is available in Forest Green, Horizon Black, and Cobalt Blue colourways. The company is also offering accessories such as a finger loop, lanyard, and card holder, which can be installed by removing the back cover. This launch challenges the established Apple-Samsung duopoly in the US market by introducing a repairable option at a competitive price point.
