ESPN’s College GameDay has finalised its schedule for the opening weeks of the 2026 college football season, confirming it will attend three consecutive games within the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The announcement, made via social media on 21 August, marks a significant focus on the conference’s marquee matchups to launch the campaign.
The show will debut its 2026 coverage at the Clemson at LSU game in Week 1. It will subsequently travel to the Ohio State at Texas contest in Week 2 before concluding its initial SEC run at the LSU at Ole Miss Rebels game in Week 3. This itinerary means the program will skip the traditional Week 0 entirely, opting instead to build momentum through the first three weeks of play.
The Week 3 selection in Oxford, Mississippi, carries particular narrative weight due to the return of former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. The game, scheduled for 19 September, will see Kiffin face his former team for the first time since departing during the Rebels’ College Football Playoff run in the previous season.
In making the decision to visit Oxford, College GameDay passed on several other high-profile matchups scheduled for the same Saturday. These excluded games included Florida State at Alabama, Florida at Auburn, Georgia at Arkansas, North Carolina at Clemson, and SMU at Louisville. The choice underscores the show’s preference for games with strong individual storylines alongside the broader conference context.
The schedule also highlights a recurring focus on the LSU Tigers, who will host two of the three selected games. With the show already committed to two LSU fixtures in the first three weeks, the itinerary suggests a strategic emphasis on the Tigers’ early-season performance.
