ESPN analyst Brandon Weeden has published his third annual evaluation of the National Football League’s top 10 quarterbacks, utilising a framework that dissects player performance across seven specific skill sets. The rankings, which draw on 2025 performance data and projections for the 2026 season, focus exclusively on starting quarterbacks and categorise talent in arm strength, ball placement, mechanics, decision-making, pocket presence, second-reaction creativity, and rushing ability.
Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills emerges as the dominant figure in the assessment, securing the number one position in arm strength, decision-making, and second-reaction creativity. Weeden highlights Allen’s capacity to deliver high-velocity passes from uncomfortable body positions, noting his consistency in connecting with receivers in tight windows. Allen also leads the league in rushing yards after first contact, a metric that underscores his physical impact on the field.
In the categories of precision and structural integrity, Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams takes the top spot for both ball placement and mechanics. Weeden distinguishes ball placement from general accuracy, defining it as the ability to place the ball in a spot where only the intended receiver can make a play. Stafford’s ranking reflects his sustained excellence in this area, despite a drop in the list for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who fell to fourth due to injuries that limited his 2025 playing time.
