England weigh bowling rotation for final Pakistan Test
With the series secured, England are considering resting fast bowlers before their white-ball matches against Sri Lanka.
England are considering rotating their bowling attack for the third Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, beginning on 9 September, after securing the series with wins at Headingley and Lord’s.
Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue are among the fast bowlers who could be rested ahead of England’s T20 and one-day international matches against Sri Lanka. Tongue is the only member of the current attack to have played all five Tests this summer.
Ollie Robinson may retain his place after taking 16 wickets in the series at an average of 7.18. Unlike Archer, Atkinson and Tongue, Robinson is not part of England’s current white-ball squads.
Sonny Baker, Sam Cook and spinner Shoaib Bashir are among the possible alternatives, although England’s final XI had not been confirmed. Brydon Carse remains absent from the 15-player squad, while Matthew Fisher has been dropped.
Sky Sports reported that Pakistan have sacked their head coach and replaced seven members of their touring squad following defeats in the opening two Tests. The third Test will be broadcast live from Edgbaston, with play scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
